A dear #friendoflar Obi aka Oben Alkan has one of our favorite profiles focusing on her cosy life of travel, her love for giving life on earth by re-rooting plants, cooking recipes we love following and her daily anecdotes on her life as a mother of Suzi. With a background in gastronomy to a life of peace and everyday joy she curates her own kitchen at home and we love seeing her in our Bandanas especially as she gives a new life. Let's get to know more about the likes and soul of Obi.

Oben can you tell us a bit about yourself? 

I am Obi, 28 years old chef/content creator, house plant addict from Istanbul.  I grew up in southern part of Turkey, Alanya with lots of sunshine. I studied gastronomy and restaurant management in university, also Le Cordon Bleu. Worked in 3 starred Michelin restaurant, as a flying chef and food stylist but 4 years ago i realized the kitchen i want to work is mine. 

What’s your favorite comfort food that invokes memories of childhood? 

Generous amount of yogurt and pilav, preferably cold.

 

What’s your favorite dish of all time?

Mushroom risotto is my go to order at many restaurant. I'd just realized it is the Italian version of my comfort food.
What is your favorite object at home? 
Felt trophy of our cat and dog hanging on the wall.

Where was your favorite summer holiday, can you tell us a bit about it? 

Bozburun, marmaris a few years ago with my bf at the time, now husband and our dog. Cold Aegean water, wet hair all day, doing nothing but enjoying the sun. 

What 3 things would you like to see more of in the world?

Love and respect to the earth, humor.

 

What 3 things would you like to see less of in the world?

Anger, smoking and walking people, fast food.

When you think of LAR what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

The sun.
